Today we awoke and headed to a 2,000 year old town, Mainz. The Romans
arrived in 38 B.C. (to pillage and plunder) and the area is steeped in history.
Christianity came early to Mainz and it was a large epispocal see (seat
of church leadership) and was an important religious center.

A typical Mainz street scene (it is REALLY packed with shops)

Another street scene (note: most taxis are Mercedes!)

Here I am in the "Markplatz" in Mainz. It was filled with street vendors
who were selling fruits, vegetables and other foods. This area was once filled with
medieval houses and this Markplatz was the scene of knights jousts!
